Ready or not..... Hitting the road to the Western

Time again to fire up the Gunship and point her somewhere.
We thought we'd escape the Carolina summer heat & venture to cooler climes
We decided the Pacific Northwest  U.S. and perhaps British Colombia would be our target.

The Gunship is out of drydock being fitted recently with a gun turret and swivelling synchronized firing .50 calibre machine guns.
Actually, we just cut a hole in the roof and put a vent with a 10 speed remote control fan.
Hoping it will make summer sleeping a bit more enjoyable.
Bob's wiring in a house battery, isolater, and 12 volt switch panel to enhance our gunship pleasure.

No doubt the thing will catch fire before we make it off the island.

I also filled 2ea 32Gb flash drives full of mp3's guaranteed to drive Carol Crazy!
Check out "Jazz Noir" if you need some excitement in  your life.

Here's what the trip looks like on paper ;

After Vancouver we'll head south to California to visit friends.
Then east to Salida/Denver/Colorado Springs (we are a bit early for Burning Man).
Finally back through KC (friends and Bar-B-Que) & onward back home in time for the white marlin and wahoo bite this fall.

As for the blog name: "Looky Looky For the Halibuti".
20 or so years ago we made 2 fishing trips to Rivers Inlet BC with my father, brothers, uncle, nephew.
We did not catch many fish as I remember.

One trip we met a German guy possessed with the desire to catch a 100lb Halibut. He spoke almost no English He was a large jovial guy with a taste for both fishing and the 24/7 open bar.
Fishing and drinking-just like squid and baby mahi-mahi.
Everytime we saw him he had a smile on his face , a drink in his hand and he greeted us with what I believe was all the English he spoke.
"Looky Looky for the Halibuti!"

20 years later I begin to understand the wisdom in this simple phrase.
If we fish long enough we realize its not about the fish caught, or even those that "get gone".
Its not about the Halibuti.
Its about the Looky Looky.

I hope this provides clear explanation for the purpose of the trip.

Attached find a couple of photos from one of those trips to British Colombia.

My nephew Charlie,  Me,  My dad Charlie (RIP).

Man, I miss those purple shorts!  Those shorts saw some fish!

My Uncle George (RIP). A class act.
